British Physics Olympiad

ROUND1
The BPhO Preliminary Round is typically a 2-3 hour written exam covering fundamental areas of physics such as mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and optics. Students who perform well in this round will advance to the next stage, the second round, which serves as the first selection process.
ROUND2
The BPhO Intermediate Round lasts 3-4 hours and features more difficult questions, including advanced physics theories and complex experimental designs. Topics include classical mechanics, electromagnetism, modern physics, and more. The round tests students’ ability to analyze and solve complex problems. After this round, the top-performing students are selected to represent the UK in the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO).
IPhO
The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) is the most prestigious and challenging physics competition for high school students worldwide. It consists of both theoretical and experimental components.
